We're going to do something a little unusual on this page: we're not going to tell you your pickup day. Austin Resource Recovery (ARR) runs the official address-level lookup for trash, recycling, and compost pickup, and that tool is the only source that should ever answer "what day is my pickup." What we do here instead is explain how Austin's collection system is structured — routes, and the alternating A-week / B-week schedule many areas use for recycling and compost — so the official lookup's result actually makes sense, and we send you straight there with a deep link.
The honest reason we don't publish our own pickup-day answer: the most detailed public dataset for this hasn't been meaningfully updated in over a decade, and treating a thirteen-year-old schedule as current would mean confidently telling tens of thousands of Austin addresses the wrong day. We'd rather point you to the tool that's actually kept current.
Frequently asked questions
Why don't you just show my exact pickup day here? Because the most granular dataset available for that specific claim is stale — last meaningfully updated over a decade ago — and a schedule that old is more likely to be wrong than right for any given address today. Austin Resource Recovery's own lookup tool uses current routing data; we link to it rather than guess.
What's an "A-week / B-week" recycling schedule? Many Austin routes collect recycling and compost every other week rather than weekly, split into an A-week group and a B-week group across the city. Which group an address falls into, and which weeks are "A" versus "B" on the calendar, is exactly what ARR's official lookup tells you.
Where do I find my official pickup schedule? Through Austin Resource Recovery's pickup-day lookup on austintexas.gov — search your address there for the current, authoritative day and week-group assignment.
Methodology
Route and service-area context on this page draws on the City's Recycle Collection Routes dataset (ytb7-vtcd, Resource Recovery Department, refreshed monthly) — used here only to describe how the routing system works in general, never to assert a specific pickup day for a specific address. We deliberately do not use the older Recycling Schedules dataset (rfif-mmvg): its most recent row update predates 2015 by a wide margin, and using it would mean publishing a stale answer with false confidence. When in doubt, we link to the City's live tool instead of filling the gap ourselves.
